What is the difference between a torte and a double layer cake?

A double layer cake has two layers of cake and one layer of filling. The total height on a double layer cake is about 3 inches. When we torte a cake, we split each of the layers again - so that you have 4 thinner layers of cake, and 3 layers of filling. This makes a torte approximately 3.5 - 4 inches high. A torte is more elegant than a double layer cake and, depending on how much filling you like, you may consider it to be tastier. However, it's more time consuming to bake and requires more ingredients, so it is therefore slightly more expensive. All of our cakes can be done either as double layer cake or a torte - the choice is yours!

How will I know how much cake I need?

Not to worry, together we will figure that out at your consultation. We use a very generous slice chart when determining the number slices per layer, so your guests will enjoy a nice big piece of cake, not the sliver of cake some bakeries plan on. We will pass our cake chart on to you so the person cutting your cake will know what size we planned for your cake slices.

What is Fondant? I've heard that Fondant covered cakes don't taste as good - is this true?

Fondant is a type of icing that is rolled out similar to pie dough. It is draped over the cake and gives a beautiful smooth finish that is popular in many cake pictures you'll see in magazines. Fondant is made from sugar and corn syrup.

If you order Fondant as your cake icing, it will be because you like the look - and probably not because you like the taste. For great taste, nothing beats butter cream icing. It is hands down the best tasting icing you can choose.

I hate sweet frosting. What other options do I have?

We hate overly sweet icings too. There is nothing that spoils a cake faster than sickly sweet icing. Many of these overly sweet icings are made with vegetable shortening, not butter, so make sure you ask other bakeries about what's in their butter cream icing.

We offer several icing options including Cream Cheese Icing, Swiss Meringue Butter Cream Icing, Confectioner's Butter Cream, Fondant, and Ganache. You'll be able to try most of these at your wedding cake consultation to see which one you like the best.

Do you deliver to my area? How much is delivery?

We deliver to most of South Eastern Michigan. We serve Washtenaw, Lenawee, and Livingston counties, and the Southwest Detroit area. Our delivery charge is $75 unless you are more than 1 hour away, then we will adjust the price as necessary.

We're on a budget can you help?

Absolutely! We will work within your budget, even if it's small. We want everyone to have a fantastic wedding cake, so if you're concerned about the price, please still give us a call, we will do all we can!
